Why did I have to rebrand to Cloud 9 Teck? So, a couple of months ago, I applied to become an Amazon Associate. Why? Because affiliate links through Amazon are a golden opportunity for monetizing a blog or YouTube channel. Fast forward to last week, I found myself staring at an email from Amazon rejecting my application. The reason? Trademark violations concerning my domain, atozmarthome.com. Naturally, I was really confused. Now, let's dive into what the cause was and how I tackled this unexpected roadblock.

Due Diligence: Research and Consultation

First off, I scrutinized Amazon's trademark policy, running through my website and blog content with a fine-tooth comb. Surprisingly, nothing seemed amiss. At this point, I decided to seek expert advice and reached out to Greg Gottfried, who runs an affiliate marketing course on YouTube. After a detailed review, he also found no glaring issues but did some deep digging and found the answer: Amazon has trademarked "A to Z."

The Dilemma: The Cloud 9 Teck Rebrand or Not to Rebrand

Now, this put me in quite a pickle. I had two choices: continue using atozsmarthome.com and run the risk of receiving a cease and desist notice, or rebrand and move on. Considering Amazon's extensive range of products, not being able to use affiliate links would be a significant setback.

The Solution: A New Brand Identity, Cloud 9 Teck

Luckily, I had another domain—Cloud9Teck.com, spelled with a 'K.' Not ideal, but it would do since the spelling with an "h" was taken. Without wasting any more time, I took action. I migrated my website and moved all my blog content, completed the YouTube channel migration, and shifted everything under the new Cloud 9 Teck brand.

Execution: The Reapplication Process

With the rebranding complete, I promptly resubmitted an application to Amazon Associates, this time under Cloud9Teck.com. After double-checking, it seemed I was in the clear as far as trademark issues were concerned.

Here's the big takeaway: roadblocks are inevitable. When you hit one, the key is to find a solution, execute it, and move forward. Yes, the process set me back slightly, and yes, I have to update all my old affiliate links. But that's the cost of adapting and evolving, and I’m sure I'll get through it in short order.
