So, did you finally get that PS5 you’ve always wanted? Now that you’ve got it and are eager to start streaming let’s talk about it before you dive in. In this review, I’ll provide my honest opinion on whether you should buy the PlayStation 5 HD Webcam for streaming based on my personal experience.

The Need for a Dedicated PlayStation 5 HD Webcam:

When I decided to delve into streaming on my PS5, I researched the available options extensively. It turns out the only compatible webcam for the PS5 is the PlayStation 5 HD Webcam. You can’t use any other webcam, and unfortunately, this one comes with some deal breaker limitations.

Initial Impressions:

Many reviews online touted the PlayStation 5 HD Webcam as a decent option for streaming. However, upon setting it up and testing it out, I was very disappointed. Even when positioned just a few feet away, the image quality was subpar. The colors were blown out, making it challenging to achieve a clear picture.

A Change in Setup:

In an attempt to improve the quality, I switched to a larger screen, sitting about six feet away from my TV. While this helped reduce the blown-out colors, it created another problem – I couldn’t interact effectively with the camera due to the distance, and the image clarity was still very subpar.

PlayStation 5 HD Webcam Limitations and Frustrations:

Despite trying various lighting setups and angles, the PlayStation 5 HD Webcam continued to disappoint. Its lack of adjustability and mounting options left me feeling frustrated. It’s clear that this webcam isn’t designed for serious streaming needs. With Sony being a leader in the camera space, it’s very disappointing to see how badly they have dropped the ball with this product. It shouldn’t be this bad.

Exploring PlayStation 5 HD Webcam Alternatives:

Realizing the limitations of the PlayStation HD Webcam, I began exploring alternative solutions. Ultimately, I concluded that investing in a capture card and an HD webcam connected to a computer is the only option, and that would offer better flexibility and image quality. Sony does not allow 3rd party camera’s to work on the PS5.

Conclusion:

In conclusion, I cannot recommend the PlayStation 5 HD Webcam for streaming on your PS5. Its poor image quality and lack of adjustability make it unsuitable for serious streaming endeavors. Instead, consider investing in a capture card setup for better results.
