These devices work together seamlessly to provide comprehensive security for your home.
Step 1: Installing the MyQ Touchscreen Smart Lock
In our journey towards creating a smart home, our first task is to install the MyQ Touchscreen Smart Lock. This fantastic device promises to add a new level of convenience and security to your daily life. I have carefully reviewed the installation instructions and I am now ready to begin the process.
Our interior garage door presents the ideal door for this installation, as it lacks a key on the handle and only has a deadbolt. Paired with the MyQ Smart Garage Video Keypad, it will be perfect for in-garage delivery services. Let’s find the perfect location for the Hub on the wall, ensuring it’s within a short distance from the MyQ Touchscreen Smart Lock. I have included a smart plug for easy control of the hub in case I need to remotely power cycle it.
Step 2: Removing Existing Door Hardware
Before we proceed with the installation, let’s remove the existing hardware. I always recommend using a ratchet screwdriver or an electric screwdriver, as it makes the process quicker and easier on your wrists. The old lock came off with just a few screws. We have removed the installation, creating an empty space that is now ready for the new installation.
Step 3: Installing the MyQ Touchscreen Smart Lock Bracket
Next, we’ll install the bracket that goes on the inside of the door. Ensure that you follow the instructions closely, align the plate accurately, and confirm that the rubber gasket is in the correct position and not being pinched. It’s a nice touch to include that, and it will ensure a good seal against the door.
Step 4: Mounting the Electronic Module
The electronic module, complete with its rubber gasket seal, fits snugly into place. Take care to follow the labeled instructions to ensure it’s positioned correctly. Additionally, the module comes with a safety feature that allows you to use a 9-volt battery as a backup power source if the batteries in the main unit die before you can replace them. This feature is incredibly helpful because it ensures that you won’t get locked out.
Step 5: Attaching the MyQ Touchscreen Smart Lock Keypad
The keypad slid into the existing deadbolt hole perfectly, and the interior bracket will securely screw to the keypad. They’ve made it easy to see which way it should be oriented with a labeled cutout for the cable. This attention to detail helps ensure a smooth installation process.
Step 6: Securing the Cable and Module
Fasten the cable to the module neatly and use the provided slot to guide it, preventing any pinching during installation. After this step, our lock and keypad are ready to go.
Step 7: Mounting the Hub
The Hub installation is straightforward, and I didn’t need to use the included drywall anchors to mount the plate. The plate and hub are not heavy, and my wall is pretty thick, so the provided screws worked perfectly to secure the mounting plate. Don’t forget to ensure that the plate and hub’s orientation are correct, as indicated by the arrow on the plate. The hub also indicates a notation to which side is the top.
Step 8: Connecting the Hub to Wi-Fi and Pairing The Sensor
Now that the Hub is securely in place, we can connect it to our Wi-Fi network. It’s important to follow the instructions carefully. In my case, I had a momentary issue where it initially reported a problem, but after a couple of attempts, I resolved the matter.
The sensor paired to the hub without any issues, so that was an easy process. For the included garage door sensor, you can either use the provided anchors or, in my case, opt for the included Velcro stickies. Considering my garage door is aluminum, the Velcro worked perfectly for a secure and neat mounting solution. Try to avoid covering important serial and model numbers on the back of the sensor with the Velcro strip in case you need to reference them later on.
Step 9: Pairing the Garage Door Opener To The Hub
Pairing the garage door opener with the Hub is a crucial step. It may take a few attempts but don’t get discouraged if it doesn’t pair immediately. This process may vary depending on your garage door, so patience is key. If it doesn’t pair properly the first time, just repeat the pairing steps until it does.
Step 10: Fine-Tuning the MyQ Touchscreen Smart Lock and Keypad
Lastly. with everything in place, it’s time to test the lock and keypad. This step ensures that your smart lock functions smoothly. You can easily lock and unlock the door using the keypad or the app.
Step 11: Getting Ready for Amazon In-Garage Delivery
Now that your MyQ Touchscreen Smart Lock is set up and you have already installed the MyQ Smart Garage Video Keypad, you’re all set for Amazon Key In-Garage Delivery. This service will provide you with a convenient and secure way to receive packages directly into your garage. I’m excited to test it out and see how well it works.
